My last blog entry

Why should a pretty teenager like Hannah Barker commits suicide? Who or what are the 13 reasons of her suicide? This are the questions which Jay Asher, the author of the novel "Thirty reasons why" answer.

The U.S. author Jay Asher is born on 30th September 1975 and writes novels for teens. He has a five year old children called Isaiah Nathan. His most popular novel is "Thirty reason why" which is written on 2007.Another novel which he writes is "The Future of Us".

The novel is about the teenager Hannah Barker records 13 tapes about the reasons of her suicide and send the tapes to this persons. So Clay Jensen gets the box with the tapes. In the course of time he understands why she commits suicide and it turns out that Clay and Hannah has feelings to each other.

In my opinion it is a good book to understand how little things like rumours can start bigger things which finally end in a disaster. Furthermore the book shows how cruel students can be to each other.
The book is easy to understand and the topic is really interesting. Although a few reasons aren't to my mind really reason to commit suicide like Marcus Cooley's part. But it's on some passages a little bit difficult to understand, because Hannah's voice and Clay's thoughts are behind each other.

But to summing up it is a good book to read it with a class or in free time.

Clay's Part 5A

Cassette 5A

Task: Sum up on your own what happens on cassette 5A.

The cassette 5A is about Clay's part in Hannah's life. At the beginning of the chapter, Clay meets Tony who said him that he should drive with him, but he does not say him where they drive. Tony said him that he has the other tapes which Hannah gives him and that the following cassette is about him. The cassette is about the party where Hannah kisses Clay. She told us that she never has hear anything bad about him and wants to get to know him better. While kissing Hannah said that he should goes out of the room and starts to cry, because she remembers how many people hurts her. In the cassette she wants apologises to Clay and that he isn't a reason why she commits suicide.

A letter to Zach Dempsey

                                                  Cassette 4A

Task: Imagine your Clay. Write a letter to Zach commenting on his actions.

Hey Zach,

I am Clay, you know we are in the same school year and you know that I have the box with Hannah's cassettes, too. I want ask you why you stole her notes? I can not understand why you do that, because I thought you are a nice guy and never want anyone anything bad. And why you didn't apologise by Hannah and told her which notes she got. I know you could not know that she wanted to commit suicide, but after her note to Mrs. Bardley, you could know that and should give her the notes or told her what they were about. Maybe when you didn't do this, maybe she didn't commit suicide.
I hope you write me back that I can understand your point of view and what you think about that.

Clay

A Peeping Tom?

Hey, my next post is about the cassette 2B. The chapter is about Tyler who is a "Peeping Tom" and takes photos from Hannah Barker when she changes. I want write some ideas about Tyler's behavior and Hannah's feelings.

I think it is really wrong from Tyler to takes photos from Hannah. A house from anyone other is a private place for him and nobody would think that anyone take photos from him.
So I can understand Hannah that she does not feel longer safe and unobserved.
I think, I could not sleep so well when I know that anyone take photos from  me.
I do not know how Tyle come to the idea to take photos from Hannah and what he want achieve. Maybe he wants blackmail Hannah or wants show the photos his friends.
Maybe Hannah wants show Tyler how it is to be "Peeping Tom" and that he does not do it any longer.

Summary of the second cassette side A

Hey, this is my second blog post about the cassette 2A. I write a little summary about this chapter.

The cassette 2A is about the third person on her list, Jessica Davis. Jessica is one of the first good fiends from Hannah. They meet them first time on a meeting from Ms. Antilly, the guidance counselor for students with the last names beginning A through G. Then they meet in Monet's cafe, they see Alex Standel and Jessica thinks that he is checking out them and asks him. So they become friend with him ,too. They often meet in Monet's to talk about them day. But then the school starts they start meet other friends. One day Jessica wants to speak with Hannah, because she hears a rumour that Hannah is in a relationship with Alex. Hannah tries to explain her that is only a rumor no more. But Jessica doesn't believe her and hurts her over her eye. So she has a scar over her eye that Hannah everytime remind that Jessica believe the rumor about her more then her.

A reason for a suicide?

Hey,
this is my first post about the novel "Thirteen Reason Why", which deals the reasons why the teenager Hannah Baker commits suicide.

In the second chapter Clay Jensen hears the Cassette 1B and Hannah tells him the second reason, why she commits suicide. The reason is that Alex Standel, a classmate from Hannah, makes a "hot-or not" list and nominates Hannah from the"hottest Ass"in the freshman class, and because of that another classmate touches her ass and harass her.

I understand her anger and humiliation, because it is not okay to reduce anyone of his appearance. Her character is more important than a "hot ass". But I think it is not a reason to kill herself, there are a lot of options to handle this. she could says that a teacher or her parents, they could helps her that the people stop harass her. So I come to the conclusion that Alex is the reason why the guy touches Hannah, but it is not a reason to commit suicide.
